Seoul's Sporting Calendar

The Seoul International Marathon is one of the most representative marathon races held in Seoul, along with Hi Seoul Marathon. The aim of the marathon is to promote the eco-friendly image of Seoul at home and abroad. The course is also environmentally-friendly and passes through downtown Seoul.

Through holding the triathlon race, the city of Seoul and its environment, development, and beauty are promoted at home and abroad. In addition, the race aims to promote the Han River as a mecca of sports. Around 2,000 athletes will participate in the race that involves swimming (1.5 km), cycling (40 km), and running (10 km).

2,500 athletes from 25 countries will participate in the race. The courses include the full course, half course (21.1 km), and 5 km course.

Beach volley ball is one of the world’s most popular beach sports. The women’s world tour will be held by The Hangang(River) and will include 70 teams.

This event is a friendly competition between the youth from the sister cities of Seoul, Moscow, Beijing, Tokyo, and Jakarta to facilitate exchanges and improve their performances. Women’s handball, judo, and diving will be held.

With the coming 2012 London Summer Olympic Games, the Championship aims to search for a rising handball star and to boost awareness of a sport not very popular in Korea. The games are held in 3 cities: Seoul, Gwangju and Cheonan.

The Seoul World Walking Festival is an event where citizens participate mainly to enjoy the beautiful scenery of Cheonggyecheon, the Han River and the old palaces.

In order to make Seoul a mecca of international sports, this bicycle race is held as part of the Asian tour of Korea, China and Japan.

The yacht race highlights the charm of the Han River’s natural environment and the city of Seoul. The race is held to celebrate the completion of the Yeouido Marina.

The Hi Seoul Marathon is one of the most famous and representative marathon races held in Seoul, along with the Seoul International Marathon. The aim of this marathon is to promote the eco-friendly nature of Seoul at home and abroad. Around 10,000 runners, including amateur and foreign runners, participate in 3 race divisions: 10K m, half course and full course.

During the winter, a skating rink is opened in the center of downtown. This enlarged link is one of the must visit places in Seoul as well as an environmentally-friendly tourist attraction.
