박예나 Park Yena

서울시립 북서울미술관에서 진행 중인 《일렉트릭 쇼크》의 참여 작가 박예나의 인터뷰를 공개합니다.

박예나는 우리 주변에 익숙하게 자리 잡은 인공 환경을 미지의 생태계로 바라보며, 그 안에서 인간과 사물의 관계를 탐구합니다. 이번 전시에서 작가는 전기 공급이 중단된 이후에도 어딘가에서 여전히 작동을 이어가는 폐기된 연구실을 상상합니다. 작가는 전시장 1층과 2층을 잇는 벽면과 계단에 환기구, 파이프, 주름관, 케이블 등 인공 생태를 지탱하는 하부 구조물을 배치하고, 이들이 하나의 거대한 기관(organ)이자 악기처럼 호흡하며 작동하도록 공간을 구성합니다. 이때 관객의 움직임과 접촉은 종말 이후에도 지속되는 인공 생태와 구조물을 활성화하는 전류이자 촉매로 기능합니다. 이를 통해 작가는 전력을 소비하는 주체로 인식되어 온 인간을 마치 기계들의 생존을 돕는 생체 배터리이자 촉매제에 가까운 존재로 만듦으로써, 인간 중심적 사고와 기존 생태계의 위계질서를 전복하고자 합니다.

박예나의 작품은 오는 3월 22일까지 서울시립 북서울미술관 전시실 1과 전시실 3에서 만나보실 수 있습니다. 많은 관심을 바랍니다.

We are pleased to share an interview with Park Yena, a participating artist in ？？？？？？？？？？？？？？？？ ？？？？？？？？？？, currently on view at Buk-Seoul Museum of Art.

Park Yena approaches the artificial environments that have become familiar parts of our surroundings as an unknown ecosystem, using them to explore the relationships between humans and objects. She installs infrastructural elements—structures that sustain an artificial ecology—along the walls and staircases connecting the first and second floors of the exhibition space, composing the space so that these elements function as both an organ and an instrument. The viewer’s movements and physical contact serve as electrical currents and catalysts that activate the artificial ecology and its underlying structures, persisting even at the end of the world. Through this process, the artist repositions humans as entities closer to biological batteries and catalysts that enable the survival of machines, thereby seeking to overturn anthropocentric thinking and the existing hierarchies of the ecosystem.
