Four Colours for Gayageum]

“Four Colours for Gayageum” has been engaged in creating new music based on an in-depth understanding and learning of the “gayageum” zither. Starting with “Scattered Melodies,” an original piece of gayageum ensemble music based on “gayageum sanjo” (free-style gayageum solo music) and one of the band’s major works, Four Colours for Gayageum will continue to create various types of gayageum ensemble music by developing a range of traditional music.

Scattered Melodies

“Scattered Melodies” is a piece of gayageum ensemble music that reinterprets four styles of gayageum sanjo (Gang Tae-hong style, Kim Byeong-ho style, Seo Gong-cheol style and Choi Ok-sam style) which the four players of the band have mastered. The rhythms of each style have been selected and integrated into a rhythmic frame of “jinyangjo,” “jungmori,” “jungjungmori,” “jajinmori,” and “hwimori” beats.

Goseokjeong Pavilion is an architecture built in the midstream of the Hantangang River during the reign of King Jinpyeong of the Silla kingdom, which is located at Jangheung-ri, Dongsong-eup, Cheorwon-eup. Designated as a National Tourist Area in 1977, the pavilion is one of the nine scenic spots in the Cheorwon area and is the only basalt eruption site in South Korea, characterized by a giant rock with a height of 10 meters in the center of the river. There are a lot of legends about Goseokjeong Pavilion as it is known as the hiding place of Im Kkeok-jeong, a bandit leader, during the early Joseon Dynasty.
