The “Gugak Artist Lab” initiative, launched by the National Gugak Center, aims to support traditional artists and encourage the development of online content rooted in traditional arts.

This endeavor focuses on fostering “Gugak Creators” by offering support in video education and production. It seeks to enrich and broaden the scope of traditional arts, exploring new possibilities and expanding its reach through regional programs and the inclusion of international participants. The project emphasizes creative and sensory experiences in the digital realm, paving the way for innovative expressions of traditional art forms.

[작품소개/ Introduction]

‘흥흥’은 판소리 〈흥타령〉의 가사와 멜로디를 바탕으로 한 곡이다. 떠나간 임에 대한 그리움을 구슬프게 노래하는 원곡과 달리 전혀 색다른 흥타령의 감성을 선보인다. 재즈 트리오의 기본 구성인 피아노, 드럼, 베이스 틀 위에 화성과 리듬적 소스를 더해줄 브라스 섹션이 함께하며 곡의 어쿠스틱한 분위기를 힘차게 가져간다. 영상에서는 신명나는 분위기 속에서 그리움을 잊기 위한 대낮의 합주 파티가 시작된다. 그러다 동료들은 흥을 주체하지 못하는 그녀를 보고 이내 떠나려한다. 그녀는 이 모든 것은 꿈이라며 그들에게 이야기하는데, 결국 예상치 못한 결말을 맞이한다. 이 작품은 ‘흥흥’의 가사와 밀접하게 연결되어 있는데, 여러 의미가 함축된 메시지가 시청자들에게 전달되기를 바란다. 보는 이들에 따라 해석이 다르게 될 수 있다는 점이 이 작품의 매력을 더 강화시킨다.

"Heung Heung" reimagines the traditional Korean pansori "Heungtaryeong" with a unique emotional twist. While the original song poignantly expresses yearning for a lost love, this rendition offers a distinctively different emotional perspective. The arrangement features a classic jazz trio of piano, drums, and bass, enriched by a brass section that intensifies the harmony and rhythm, creating a compelling acoustic ambiance. The accompanying video portrays an energetic daytime jam session, an effort to overshadow feelings of longing.

As the session unfolds, the excitement becomes too much for the colleagues of the female lead, who soon decide to leave. She then reveals to them that everything they're experiencing is just a dream, culminating in an unforeseen conclusion. This piece, deeply intertwined with the lyrics of "Heung Heung," is designed to deliver a multi-layered message to its audience. Its allure lies in the diverse interpretations it can evoke among different viewers.
